Seriously France?

Good day Cyber-Space,

As I'm well aware a good majority of people don't follow current affairs anymore. For all of you that missed it, France has passed a law making it illegal for Muslim women to wear a burqa (full-body covering worn by some Muslim women) or a niqab (face veil) in public. The French Senate has also decided that this law is constitutional.

Am I the only person that see's something wrong with this? When did it become O.K. for a government to regulate a religious practice that has been going on since before most modern religions existed? I do understand that many people will say it has to do with women's right and women's equality but what about all of the traditional Muslim women that wear it by choice? Even in modern day America you will find women that were born and raised in America and still choose to wear this traditional attire, not forced too. It's not like we are talking about slavery of the Jews because that was tradition in Egypt thousands of years ago. Since then we have evolved as a whole (at least I hope we did) and realized that enslaving another person is morally wrong. Then again I feel the best argument anyone can make for this ban is forcing women to dress this way is a form of slavery. I completely agree with this and I understand that this is true and does happen. But what about all the French-Muslim women that were protesting this law while wearing a burqa? Do you think an extreme traditional Muslim man would allow a woman to go into the streets by herself and protest? No they wouldn't and if you know anything about Muslim extremest's you will agree with me.

So to enforce this law the French government has set a 150 Euro fine for any woman that wears a niqab in public and a one year prison sentence or 15,000 Euro fine for any woman wearing a burqa.
WTF France?

I look forward to hearing anyone's opinion on this.

Until Next Time,
Kyle

  1. My first thought would be "why would anyone spend time and energy on banning a piece of clothing", I understand the stigma that is associated with a face veil but a person should have the right to wear anything he or she chooses. If a law is passed to ban face veils where does it stop?! I see some ridiculous outfits in the US but thats what makes us individuals. My hope would be that in time Muslim women would not feel the need to cover or hide herself because a man demands it - but thats my want for them - what do they really want? Religious beliefs enforced by men on women should be questioned but not this way.

  2. I have the same question as Kyle. What is the reason for France constitute this law? National security is my first thought. It is harder identify a person with a mask on their face. Imagine if someone rob a bank, ran, and blend into the crowd that wear face masks or face veils. My second thought is the human right or freedom. What is human right? Should freedom be earned or let anybody do whatever they want because of the freedom right? I think human right is the limit for a person do or cannot do according to their right (local law). Anybody probably will disagree with me here. Another thought is the term called "human being" and everybody should think about rather than the right. I also think that human right is a defence mechanism or a barrier. For example, if your neighbor stepped in your line of property, you felt offended, and called the police. Another example is when you sneez, you should cover your mouth, but some body told you cover your mouth. You probably felt bell little by that person and you could say you could sneez wherever you want because is your right. I am pretty sure somebody could find another example. It is similar scenario. Another thought, people should be more adapt and over come. I do not know if anybody practicing this tradition, but I do respect rules, laws, traditions, or cultures when I go to someone's house or country. For example, my mother's house will not wear shoes inside, do not talk to a female human when goes to some countries in middle east, or not wearing a belt when getting a lap dance. I do not know about you guys, but that is the local rules or laws. If someone is in a military, then I am pretty sure they would heard of "Law of the Land." My last thought is that France could of come up with a better solution. Like they cannot wear the face veil in a certain place. Banks, police department, school, place where they need identification, or place where easily target by terrorist. Anyway, my conclusion is that I do not know the reason or neither Kyle. Anyone can analyze it in different angles, views, or opinions. This is my thought and I do not know if I am right or wrong. Let's just share everybody's thought and come up with a better solution about it. Maybe our thoughts could reach France consider our solution and help their people a better future.
